Succubus Night Bar YOTOGI — a shisha bar in Kyoto’s Kiyamachi (木屋町), by the Takasegawa canal. The succubi are waiting in the pink-and-purple neon.

Daytime in Kyoto is busy. You pass beneath the vermilion gates of Fushimi Inari, wander the bamboo groves of Arashiyama, gaze at the Golden Pavilion, slip through the old lanes of Gion, and at dusk you fill up on Kyoto ramen or obanzai along Pontocho. And then——what next? Too early to head back to the hotel. The real charm of Kyoto, we think, hides in exactly these “after-dinner hours.”

The place to fill those hours is Succubus Night Bar YOTOGI (夜伽), a shisha bar tucked along Kyoto’s Kiyamachi (木屋町). Set on the canal-side nightlife street beside the Takasegawa, our bar takes the succubus as its concept — blending Japan’s signature “concept café” culture with shisha (hookah). A space you rarely find outside Japan.

“Another Kyoto — the one the guidebooks leave out — is right here.”

— 01 Beyond the neon, a world of “succubi”

Alluring, yet easy for anyone to relax into.

Open the door and pink-and-purple neon drifts through the smoke. Cast members styled as “succubi” welcome you in carefully made costumes. Even on a first visit, the tension melts away in minutes — that strange, easy comfort is what we’re proud of.

— 02 Good to know: “prices” and “rules”

No-surprise billing, and the photo rules.

The thing travelers worry about most is the bill. YOTOGI runs on clear pricing with no tax and no service charge — the price you see is the total. For a first visit, the new-customer free-flow plan is more than enough, and shisha is entirely optional on top.

Price · First Visit
New-Customer Plan

+3,000yen
No tax, no service charge — the price shown is the total. Shisha is optional — the ¥4,000 free-flow plan on its own is perfectly fine, so non-smokers are very welcome too. Add shisha and it comes to about ¥7,000, and one device can be shared by two.

One more thing worth knowing: the photo rules. Plenty of guests want SNS-worthy shots — the room, the neon, the shisha and the drinks are all free to photograph. Photos that include the cast, however, follow a few rules. Please take a look.

— 03 A different night for every season

Kiyamachi changes its face through the year — and so do we.

One of the joys of YOTOGI is the address. The Takasegawa canal runs right past our door, and Kiyamachi shifts with the seasons. Here’s how to pair a Kyoto night with a visit, season by season.

🌸 Spring
Yozakura → “Night Succubus”

The Takasegawa canal just outside is one of Kyoto’s loveliest cherry-blossom streets. Stroll the yozakura (night sakura) — then step in for a “Night Succubus.” Our little springtime pun, plus sakura-themed flavors on the menu.

☀️ Summer
Festivals & the riverside

July brings the Gion Matsuri, and kawadoko dining platforms open out over the nearby Kamogawa. Cool down after the heat with a cold drink and a slow draw of smoke.

🍁 Autumn
Maple-leaf nights

Kyoto’s momiji blaze red — the night illuminations at Tofuku-ji and Eikan-do are a highlight. Close a day of autumn leaves with a quiet hour by the canal.

❄️ Winter
Lights & warmth

From Higashiyama Hanatoro to the year-end illuminations, winter Kyoto glows. Warm up from the cold inside, wrapped in pink-and-purple neon.

— 04 The “one night in Kyoto” YOTOGI proposes

A location that slips naturally into your sightseeing route.

YOTOGI sits in Kiyamachi (木屋町), within walking distance of Pontocho, Gion, Nishiki Market and the Kamogawa riverside — and close to Kyoto’s main stations. In other words, you can drop by on the same stroll right after dinner, shopping or sightseeing. If we were to map out a night, we’d suggest a flow like this.
